The worlds of fashion and ballet seem similar enough, what with their shared dependence on lithe ladies, frothy skirts, unforgiving shoes and diva personalities.

“People think, ‘Well, how different can it be?’ ” said Marc Happel, New York City Ballet’s director of costumes. “But they’re designing clothes, we’re dealing with costumes. It’s a great difference.”

PNC Arts Alive presents Saint Louis Ballet: Costumes. This short educational film goes behind the scenes of costuming with Wardrobe Mistress and Costume Supervisor for SLB, Nada Darandari. She speaks about creating costumes, managing costumes, fitting dancers, renting costumes, and storing and cleaning costumes. Featured costumes include those from “The Nutcracker”, “Romeo and Juliet”, “Le Reve”, and “Swan Lake”. This is the second segment of this series Saint Louis Ballet is producing for education in arts with the help of PNC Arts Alive.
